Why You Should Do Your Internship Abroad
Internships
seem to be increasingly popular these days. I myself am currently doing an
internship abroad for my Business Administration degree in
Barcelona. For students, it is a great way to take initiative, make new
contacts and gain experience. While any internships can add credibility to your
resume, some may prove more worthwhile than others. Therefore, the best internship
opportunity may be waiting outside the boundaries of the country you live in,
something I decided to do as well and here is why.
·
International
internships provide you international contacts and experience, giving you
cultural awareness, and in the growing international economy we are undergoing,
employers often like to see that you are comfortable communicating across
cultures. Having a global awareness will strengthen your communication skills
and positive attitude, for example.
·
Doing
an internship abroad will take you a bit further out of your comfort zone than
an internship in your home country would do, and once again, companies like to
see that you are willing and able to take on a challenge. This, in return, will
help you gain confidence in your own abilities.
·
Moreover,
it is always helpful to expand your viewpoints by learning things from a new
perspective and different culture. A business abroad may have different
strategies and ways of doing things and handling situations, for example. Besides,
when you return home, you bring those ideas back with you.
·
Lastly,
you get to travel. Interning abroad is a great way to meet new people, learn
the local language, see the new cultures, and feel a part of the local
community. It can enhance your overall experience.
For these reasons and of course many more, an internship abroad can be both personally rewarding and
beneficial to your career!
